We are conducting an executive search for a key person to open and maintain the Buffalo market for this epoxy flooring company. Today they have one crew in Buffalo whose performance is not as exciting as they would like. The objective is to build three crews that perform exemplary.
A letter (from my client):
Hi John, As you and I discussed when we met last week, we have done exceptionally well in Rochester NY as well as several other cities. Our Buffalo team will be our primary focus for now.
Yesterday I spent a bunch of time with a couple of my key people – reviewing our objectives and discussing our biggest roadblocks. The one key point that came out of the meeting was that when we hire a Manager to lead our floor crews, we cannot afford to settle for anybody less than the perfect resume. I really want to focus our search.
The bottom line is that someone who is a manager but lacks the epoxy flooring experience, will likely not be able to shine when the crap hits the fan. We really need someone who’s been through the wars (so to speak). We absolutely must have, someone with extensive experience with floor coatings and or concrete applications. Ideally, we would hire a mature leader with lots of epoxy experience. I know that’s difficult to find and we may not be successful. However that would be our ideal, and for the record we are willing to pay for them.
The next best candidate would perhaps be younger with less on the job experience, but with clear leadership potential. If they have the right attitude and motivation – this will be a great home for them. Maybe someone who’s been on a team for years and sees no chance of getting into the next level, because that forty-something year old guy is in the role…
We understand that this person may not be local, and will be expensive, but we cannot afford to shoot lower than our “next best” applicant credentials.
Hopefully this makes sense to you. I don’t want to waste your time or your candidates time… I know it’s valuable. If you have any ways to reach into other nearby markets – and help us find that person, that’s great. I’d love to continue to work with you and your team. I know this person is out there somewhere…
Let me know what you think.
